Fine Motor skills
Fine Motor Skills involve the small muscles of the body that enable such functions of writing, grasping small objects, and fastening clothing. They involve strength, fine motor contril and dexterity.
Some activities can be used to help fine motor development and promote and improve hand grasp skills for writing. Nothing is more motivating to a student than toys, games and interactive play.
Small Muscles of the Hand:
-Snap fingers, spin a top
-Mold, roll clay, playdough or silly putty
-Use squirt guns or spray bottles
-Play games with cards, coins, chips or pegs to manipulate
-Work on stringing or lacing activities
-Use tweezers, games such as operation, bud begs use these as well
-Use hole puncher for art projects
-Open various jars or containers
-Practice dressing skills while manipulating fasteners such as buttons, zippers and snaps
-Use scissors, hold correctly with a thembs up position and cut paper of various thickness
-Other games such as jacks, pick up sticks, hi ho cherrio, marbles all help with hand skills as well as eye hand
coordination
-Typing games on computer to work on finger isolation
